A burst of Gluten-Free Liquid-Gushers

Gushers, Fruit Roll-ups, Gummy Candies, Licorice, Sour Straws, Gummy snacks.  Ahh, those days... Those days I didn't worry about the ingredients or the calorie intake.  I could sit home watching TV and eat an entire box of Fruit Roll-ups and never feel sick (whether it be gluten induced or junk food crap stomach-ache induced).  I could eat candy, chocolate and ice cream for eternity.  I used to dream candy and processed junk food like it was my job.  The only thing I needed to worry about was cavities.  As a kid and a teen I seemed to have a very fast metabolism, and never had to worry about gaining weight.  I somehow just lost it.  So it was cavities.   As a child my mom did the grocery shopping so I didn't need to worry about reading labels, decoding ingredients and sounding out the gluten from the side ingredient list on the box.  Does this have gluten? Is this an additive? a thickener? hidden gluten? aye aye!.  But lik...

The Original Fudgsicle Mishap

My Grocery Cart About 3 months ago I was in the market as usual,  doing my weekly grocery shopping, in the second to last row: the freezer section.  I wanted my weekly fudge pop indulgence.  I grabbed the package in the backity back!! The most frozen one I could find, and decided to blog this wonderful gluten free treat.  I realized I had never blogged about this fudge pop being gluten-free, and how silly of me to keep this tid bit to myself.  So I grabbed my phone to take a picture of the front and back of the box.  I gasped! omg, omg, omg.  I starred at the ingredients.  MALT FLOUR.  Yikes!  No way!  It can't be.  How come I never noticed this before?  Did the ingredients change?  Was it always like this?  Something had to have changed and then to top it off I noticed at the bottom of the ingredient...

Reading Labels

I think one of the most confusing parts of Celiac Disease is reading labels and understanding the brands you buy.  Tid Bit-Just because one product from a specific manufacturer is gluten-free does not mean another product will be.  So you always have to be careful and on your game. Never assume. Always read the labels. xoxo Julie http://www.goodiegoodiegluten-free.blogspot.com/

KinniTOOS Oreos

Yes, yes.  I loved them.  These crumbly oreo creme cookies!  Look at how many we ate...and now? After I took the picture there are only 4 left!  I posted about these earlier and I said at first I didn't like them. My entire office dug them!  We gobbled these babies up! I changed my mind too.  They are addicting. I have tried other gf oreo cookies and they are hard and small. These are just delightful.  I just ate about 300-400 calories in COOKIES!  I'll let it slide this time around...diet back tomorrow. Enjoy! xoxo Julie http://www.goodiegoodiegluten-free.blogspot.com/

Kinnikinnick GF Oreo Cookies

Just one is 50 calories!!  Sad face.  I was on my way home from work and stopped at the local health food store on 34th street between Park and Lex.  I wanted an oreo cookie.  Period.  I went in and found Kinnikinnick's brand called Kinnitoos.  This is a chocolate sandwich creme cookie that happens to be gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free, casein-free, lactose-free, tree-nut free and peanut-free. Lot's of free's.  That must be why they are so many calories for one! But I brought them into work and gave one to my co-worker Gina and one to myself.  For Breakfast.  Yeah!  What a healthy breakfast.  ; ) At first I was disappointed.  I didn't think they were that good.  But as I chewed, I really like the aftertaste.  Then I decided they were really good.  Gina really dug them too.  The creme is a little off in taste, but the rest of the cookie was good.  It was crumbly, and not...

Gluten-Free Watercooler-Pret A Manger's GF options

One of my favorite lunch spots to go during work hours is Pret A Manger .  I always know that some of their salads are gluten-free, but I am never sure with their dressings.  According to Pret's website 3out of 5 dressings are gluten-free, wheat free and suitable for vegetarians.  And only two salads at Pret are not gluten-free.  Go Pret! Pret has various locations all over and a plethora in NYC alone. Pret's Wildberry Salad Dressing  is gluten-free, dairy-free, wheat-free and suitable for vegetarians and Vegans.  The sad part?  Just one serving is 160 Calories!  And the dressings come with 2 servings, so be careful if you are watching your weight! Pret's Lemon and Shallot Vinaigrette Dressing  is gluten-free, dairy-free, wheat-free and suitable for vegetarians.  The sad part?  Just one serving is 100 Calories!  And the dressings come with 2 servings, so be careful if you are watching your weight!  (This is m...
