CloSYS Oral Mouth Rinse

Did you know that most mouth washes contain alcohol, and because of that promote bad breath, rather then tackle it? CloSYS Oral Mouth Rinse is gluten-free and contains 0 alcohol content.  It is recommended by dentists and actually works long term. Oral  health is important, and having Celiac Disease can sometimes compromise healthy teeth and a healthy mouth. Closy's can be found at Walgreens, Amazon.com or directly from the CloSYS website. Enjoy! xoxo Julie www.goodiegoodiegluten-free.blogspot.com/

The new "It" Veggie-Brussels Sprout

I gotta tell you, I am just loving Brussels sprouts (Can be spelled many ways, but the s should always be at the end of Brussel since the plant was named after the Belgium city Brussels)!  Of course as a kid or even a teen or college grad, I was disgusted by this vile veggie (first known use of Brussels Sprout was used in 1796 ) (and some sources go further back to the 1500's and even earlier).  My sister on the other hand loves Brussels Sprouts, and I decided that I would continually eat them no matter how much I hated them, so I could in turn learn to like them.  Brussels Sprout seems to be the new innovative veggie!  Different sauces from different lands, popular chefs at popular restaurants serving them roasted or grilled or even steamed, caramelized and candied.  I guess you could say I forced myself to like Brussels Sprouts, and now I'm loving them!  It's the perfect side dish and for some weird reason no one can turn down a side order of an interestedly concocted

Vitamin D, Calcium and Estrogen Levels

Did you know that 99% of your calcium goes to your bones and your teeth?   Did you know that Vitamin D works hand in hand with Calcium by helping your intestines digest Calcium (a major building block for your bones)? There are many cases of Celiac Disease that come with vitamin deficiencies especially D and Calcium.  Prior to my diagnosis-I was so utterly deficient in Vit. D and Calcium!  My number was so low once I got my blood levels tested with an endocrinologist (at the time the norm was a level of 40, and I was in the teens.  Now most doctors want your levels to be anywhere from 70 and up.  I do best when my levels are around 90).  And for those older, or even as young as your mid 30's-Osteoporosis (thinning of bone tissue and bone density over time) could become a concern over time whether it runs it the family or not and especially if you have Celiac Disease.  The same goes for cavities.  I notice that when my Vitamin D and Calcium levels are low I am more prone

Gluten-Free Watercooler-CO OP Restaurant

Another fabulous spot that caters to those whom are gluten-free!  This by no means is a gluten-free restaurant, but the chef (John Keller) and wait-staff and even the owner are very savvy!  I attended my sister's bday party last year at this fine Lower East Side dig and uber popular lounge.  We sat down and I immediately noticed the menu was asian fusion and sharing.  Sh*t I thought.  But then when I mentioned this to the waitress she went to ask the chef and she came back with a list written on a piece of paper that I actually still have and had taped it to my desk.  I will share it with you.  (see below, the list). This restaurant is located on 107 Rivington between Ludlow and Essex, right in the Rivington Hotel. A post long overdue, and a fabulous restaurant that needs recognition! Here is the NO GLUTEN list from the chef on the  Dinner Menu Fluke Crude Tuna Salad Kale Caeser Beet and Goat Cheese Salad Baby Octopus Chopped Salad Paper Cut Sala

**found in Glamour Magazine, March 2012 Jayma Mays, 32 who plays the prim-and-proper Emma Pillsbury on Glee, is known for epic get-togethers she has with her friends.  They have girls-night-out, "boys' night out" (which is actually burgers and beers without the boys), and stay-in parties at her place, like the one here with friends Andrea Aguilera, Amanda hunter and Sarah Coomes.  "People just want to be together", says Mays.  "You don't have to spend a ton of money on food".  So how do you do that?  Mays teamed up with Rebecca Riker, a chef at L.A. hot spot Animal, to serve an easy menu loaded with fun twists on old favorites.  Try them all!                                           Italian Lettuce Cups The perfect App Converted by moi Serves 6 Italian Lettuce Cups Store bought roasted half chicken or chicken pieces (about 3 cups) 1/2 cup italian dressing (remember to buy gluten-free) 1/4 cup fat-free mayo 2 tsp. sugar 1/4 cu

Gluten-Free Watercooler-Lilli and Loo Restaurant

Just wanted to share some fabulous pics of these delicious dishes I ate at Lilli and Loo (sister restaurant is Lili 57  located on 57th st. and 7th avenue ( To-Go Menu ).  Lili and Loo is located near bloomingdales on the Upper East Side on Lexington Ave between 61st and 62nd street.  This location has the largest Asian GF menu I have ever seen!  Here is a link to their to-go menu , but the actual menu at the restaurant is so much larger.  Pictures of the menu would not even do it justice.  And it's soooo good.  I have to be honest it's better then its sister restaurant.  Both locations deliver, and both locations are on Seemlessweb.com.                                       GF Spring Roll-I have never had a GF one before-Sooo Good                                                                                     GF Beef Pad Thai                                                                    GF Sesame Tofu w/ Mixed Veggies

Gluten-Free Watercooler-The Hurricane Club Restaurant

I just posted a great review on YELP for this restaurant.  And my post below is more detailed with pics.  First off it's very gluten-free friendly-there is no gluten-free menu but the waiter and chef will tell you exactly what they can do for you and how.  Phew!  A while back I posted a fabulous naturally gluten-free recipe from this fine NYC trendy restaurant menu... GF Chickpea Lettuce Wraps  and now I am going to post the review from Yelp.                                   **picture taken in 2011-that's me on the far right The Hurricane Club is a transporting experience!  You walk in to what appears to look like a business and you are instantly transported into high ceilings, chandeliers and exclusivity.  It's Tiki Glam!  Drinking out of coconuts and lots of other fabulous concoctions.  You feel important when you dine there.  This is not your average restaurant, this is NYC...Gotta make it glam!  Written up many times in many magazines including Time Out Ma

Gluten-Free Watercooler-Goat Town Restaurant

A restaurant that celebrity Jennifer Esposito frequents, I went based on her recommendation.  A small cozy spot that is very neighborhood friendly in the village.  A more meat and potatoes kind of place where the owner makes his own gluten-free ice-creams and sorbets.  GF pancakes and waffles for brunch too! Enjoy! xoxo Julie www.goodiegoodiegluten-free.blogspot.com/

Gluten-Free Watercooler-Murray Hill Food Emporium

My Food Emporium seems to be the only location that carries the LEAST amount of gluten-free.  But I think that is changing.  I am noticing more and more.  The Upper East Side location seems to have sooo much including GF Pizza, potato tots, veggie burgers and more.   Here is what I have found so far!  In addition to the below pictures I also found all flavors of Mary's Gone Crackers, Lara Bars, GF Gummies, Vans GF Waffles, GF Peanut Butters, Almond Butter, Rice Milk, Soy Milk, GF yogurts, Laughing Cow Cheese and Skinny Cow Popsicles.  There is a lot that is naturally gluten free as well!  And the Betty Crocker GF frostings are available too. What I love about Food Emporium is the labeling.  Labeling is important and it is nice to see that the products themselves have great labeling and the markets carrying them.  These are not all in one section, so you will have to rummage and sort through. xoxo Julie www.goodi

CrunchMaster Crackers

Ok so I tried these crackers a while ago and have kept the empty box in my fridge so I can blog it.  I didn't realize this brand was by the same manufacturer as my other favorite crackers by CrunchMaster!   CrunchMaster came out with these fab crackers in many flavors such as toasted onion, rosemary and olive oil, sea salt, original, roasted vegetable and white cheddar.  The white cheddar is definitely new.   While at Healthsmart located in Murray Hill on 37th St. and Third ave, I came across Ancient Grains crackers!  Soooo good!!!!!  I devoured them!.  So far they have Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper.  I devour all of these crackers I guess I should have know they were from CrunchMaster.  And what is so great is that you can have like 16 crackers and its only 140 calories-that varies-give or take depending on the flavor.  All gluten-free!  And certified GF.  Some are sugar free, some are vegan/dairy free and all are cholesterol free, and 100% whole grain.  All are also Kos

Not All Advil Is Gluten-Free!!!

After last night's POST , GF Advil was on my mind and I decided to call Advil/Pfizer this morning to get some more clarification.  In response to my post last night I advised through the website that Advil Liqui-gels, Advil Migraine and Advil Liqui-Gels PM contain a wheat derivative.  After my phone call with a lovely representative I received more information. - ALL ADVIL LIQUI-GELS contain a wheat derivative .   ALL LIQUI-GELS.  So stop these immediately if you are taking the Liqui-gels.  You maybe getting sick from a medication rather then a food and this is so important to recognize!  Just steer clear of Liqui-Gels. -ALL FORMS OF ADVIL MIGRAINE contain gluten .  There is no further information if it is just the Liqui-Gels or the Tablets, Caplets and Gel-Caps.  Pfizer does not have this info therefore they informed me to steer clear of all Advil Migraine pills. Here is what IS GLUTEN-FREE FROM ADVIL: All Advil Tablets, Gel-Caps ( which are different then Li

Advil-Is This Medication Gluten-Free?

Recently while in the NYU ER getting X-ray's on my fractured foot, the doctor I saw there mentioned that a patient he recently had seen said Advil was not gluten-free.  I was shocked!  Because the last time I checked on my drug list it was!  My mom and I who are both gluten-free and frequently use advil looked at each other, and the doctor then said maybe I was wrong!.  I said, "no, I need to research this for my blog and for myself"!!.  So I went to the advil website and there actually IS some truth to this!!! I am just so happy I do not take the below meds, but for those that do...STOP!. Advil Liqui-Gels, Advil Migraine and Advil PM Liqui-Gels contain a Wheat derivative and therefore are not gluten-free!!!!  All other advil products are.  So be careful on which ones you buy! The annoying part about gf products is that their ingredients are ever-changing, which means that a product that may have been gluten free in years past, may not be now.  So always check wit
